Toilet bowl cleaners can ocucupy a strong position in household sanitation.

A good Toilet bowl cleaners, in addition in processing a fairly ready solubility in cold water, should be relatively safe and easy to handle.

The most comonly used mineral acids such as Hydrochloric Acid and Sulphuric Acid, and strong alkalies are effective bowl cleaner, but they are poisonous and dangerous to handle.
Sodium bisulphate is much safer in this respect. In contact with water it generates Sulphuric Acid, which performs the cleaning function.
Sodium bisulphate should be in powder form and must have Sulphuric Acid equivalent of not less than 30 % by wight.
The direction for use are simple.
First, flush toilet with water. Shake the cleaner in water and apply on all the side sof bowl.
After allowing about 10 minutes brush the bowl with a toilet brush to remove dicoloration and then flush the toilet.
When the bowl is badly discoloured, repeat the operation, allowing the solution to remain in the bowl 15 minutes or longer.

● 1-st Formulation

Sodium bisulphate = 16.0
Phenol or essential oil = 4.0
Sodium Sulphate = 16.0

The above formula is suitable for deodorizing and cleansing of toilet bowls.
Sodium Sulphate prevents the Sodium bisulphate from liquefying or caking when combined with Phenol or oils used as perfuming agents.
About 1 % of Pine Oil can be incorporated. It helps prevent clogging.
Sometimes, surface active agents such as Alkyd Arylsulphonates or Alkyl Amido Alcohol Sulphate which are stable in acid as well as alkaline solution are incorporated.

A simple formulation of toilet bowl cleaner is given below.

● 2-nd Formulation

Sodium bisulphate = 90.0
Ferric Sulphate = 10.0

● 3-th Formulation

Aluminium salt can also used because of their property of precipitation and deodourising.
Other possible ingridients include Soda Ash, Trisodium Phosphate, Sodium Sesquisilicate, Sodium Pyrophosphate, Sodium Perborate, Potassium Carbonate, Bicarbonate and Ammonium salts.

The following formulation is a very effective bowl cleaner.

Sodium Acid Sulphate = 45.0
Sodium Chloride = 20.0
Aluminium Sulphate = 15.0
Sodium Perborate = 10.0
Sodium Pyrophosphate = 10.0
